The Public Balcony
There are many balconies in the public sector and often they cannot be closed for any length of time, or even not at all. The surface of a public balcony can range from a cement based screed to an Asphalt topping, or a paving slab or tile finish.Concrete surfaces crack and pit causing water to hold or penetrate then erosion and corrosion to take place. This is a very serious situation that is often protected against by applying a surface topping.
Traditionally a surface topping would be Asphalt or a bitumen road surfacing. Both these types suffer fro the effects of solar heat gain, they slump and the split. The result is to allow water to hold between the deck and the topping, causing corrosion and leaks. Slumping also causes severe ponding.
Paving and tiling suffer from leaks through the joints and again this leads to trapped water. A further hazard with these types is that they loosen or shift and kick up to cause a trip hazard.
The Robex Balcony System is a seamless monolithic topping that can even be applied over existing tiles, paving and other toppings. The finish is available in a range of colours and styles. Installation usually takes around 2 days for 100m² balcony depending on the extent of surface preparation required.
