General work permit

The name can be quite misleading, but a general work permit is suitable for any foreigner who has received an offer of employment. A general work permit is tied to a specific employer and if you are in possession of such a permit, you may not change position (such as in the case of promotion) or employer without requesting amendment of your work permit from the Department of Home Affairs in the appropriate manner.

The requirements for a general work permit are stringent and include advertising the position in a particular format and providing references and proof of experience and verifiable qualifications that motivate the choice of a foreigner over a South Africa. In special circumstances, we are able to request that certain of these requirements are waived with a thorough and plausible motivation. BUSINESS PERMIT:

The permit requires an investment of R2,5 million, which may be waived in certain cases.

The holder of this permit may apply for Permanent Residence immediately without a compulsory residence period.

RETIREMENT PERMIT:

Exceptional skills work permit for foreigners who have published, are exceptional within their profession;

Spousal permitfor a foreigner who is in a spousal relationship or is legally married to a South African

Corporate permit for a company wishing to employ large numbers of skilled foreigners in defined positions for project or other requirements in South Africa

Permanent residence in South Africa may be granted to a qualifying applicant who either has worked in South Africa for  5 years, qualifies as a business , exceptional skills  or retirement permit holder or is in a qualifying spousal relationship with a South African
