MCD Training Centre (Pty) Ltd was founded in 2001 following the implementation of a privatisation programme in the Samancor group, which is part of the Billiton group of companies. The founders of the company, have extensive experience in training. Even though MCD Head Office is Gauteng Province, MCD is able to render service to all South Africas nine provinces and the neighbouring countries. The apprenticeship training that is provided can be divided into five main categories, namely Engineering (artisan training), Processing (smelting), Lifting Operator (LOPT), Safety and Earthmoving Equipment. Training can be given at more than one level in respect of most categories. Engineering courses, for instance, are offered at apprenticeship, learnership, skills programme, short course or Section 28 levels.
MCD Training has the necessary evaluation facilities (RPL) to advise companies on the gaps in the training and development of both new and experienced artisans and therefore help them to fill these gaps and bring them up to the correct level of competence.

MCD Training Centre(PTY) Ltd. has excellent training facilities in terms of Apprenticeship Training, Learnership Training, Lifting Operator Training, Surface Mobile Equipment Training, RPL Training, Trade Test Readiness, Trade Test Assessments, Short Courses, Soft Skills, SDF Services and staff members are carefully selected, not only with regard to their qualifications, but also their training skills. Training programmes are flexible and can be adjusted to suit customers’ specific needs. In cases where training is required in special fields or skills falling outside its own fields of expertise, MCD Training can arrange, as a service to its clients, training at specialist institutions.
MCD has its principal accreditation with Merseta both as a training provider in respect of the disciplines set out below (Accreditation No. 17-QA/ACC/0300/08). It also has accreditation for learnership training. MCD is also accredited as a Provider of Education and Training for the Training and Conducting of Summative Assessments (Trade Testing) of learners (Accreditation No. 17-QA/ACC/0300/08). This means that trade test assessments can be carried out at the training centre. Accreditation has also been received for electrical learnerships at the ESETA (ES/ETQA/0105).
All training materials comply with the relevant SETA unit standards.
Training is provided from entrance levels NQF2 up to artisan level (NQF4) in all the disciplines offered.
