MPLS Solutions
Logical Wireless (‘LW’) is proud to announce the launch of its own iDirect Evolution Satellite Teleport (‘iDEST’), collocated at VOX Datapro one of South Africa’s leading internet service providers. This offers businesses operating in Southern Africa an efficient and reliable solution for satellite connectivity, specifically in remote regions that are un-serviced by traditional terrestrial solutions.
The advantages that the iDEST can offer clients are:
- A Completely Private Network (i.e. no connection into other networks) between your head office and branches.
- Head Office and branches can be located anywhere in Southern Africa.
- Reduced Latency (Teleport is located in Johannesburg).
- Possible to run software applications (eg, ERP’s, SAP)
- Accurate Bandwidth Allocation.
- Reliability (up time 99.5%)
- Quick Deployment
- VOIP capability
- 24/7 Real Time Monitoring
- Dedicated bandwidth (i.e. not shared)
- Quality Support Service
- Affordable Redundancy
The Systems and Architecture – How it works!
A segment of bandwidth is leased from LW and then allocated to each of the remote sites/branches of a client. Using Group Quality of Service (GQS), only these sites/branches would share the aforementioned leased bandwidth. Each remote site is allocated a minimum guaranteed bandwidth as well as a ‘burstable’ portion of bandwidth. This ‘burstable’ portion of bandwidth becomes available when other sites/branches within your company are not using their allocated minimum bandwidth. This intelligent management utilises the leased bandwidth very efficiently and ensures optimal performance and a high quality of service.
The hardware platform uses iDirect X3 Evolution DVBS2 modems connected via small 1.2m antennas. IP traffic lands at our local JHB teleport which then connects to the client’s head office via a direct leased line (MPLS). No other clients have access to this segment of bandwidth which we can setup using your IP address range. This solution is thus a completely private network, essentially we are able to connect into your Company’s cloud from anywhere on the continent.
If required, internet breakout can be provided by LW or this can be provided from your head office.
For a satellite solution the latency is low as the Teleport is locate in JHB, as opposed to the Teleport being located internationally. This reduced latency will be noticeable even if the internet is used as the backbone for connectivity between our JHB teleport and your head office. Typical ranges we achieve are between 600 – 800mS. The latency on a leased line or MPLS is typically between 600 – 650ms but will result in an increase in cost. Latency can be further addressed using WAN optimisation devices. We are more than happy to supply a proof of concept with WAN optimisation for demonstration purposes.
The satellite space will be owned by your Company, providing the flexibility to make changes to connectivity as and when required. As the number of sites grows, the leased bandwidth can be allocated amongst these sites (depending upon the minimum required per site) or perhaps at certain times of the month bandwidth can be temporarily increased to meet variable demand levels. These changes will, however, not affect the costing in any way.
